THE HOUSE Enter into the memory of the orphanage, into the history of the place by visiting the house, discovering the drawings, letters and portraits that are collected there, accompanied by a mediator. What to discover? The house is only accessible via guided tours. Tour times and themes can be chosen when booking or at reception : >> ‘History of the Colony’ tour During your visit, accompanied by a guide, you will explore the different rooms of the house: the dining hall, the classroom, the dormitories… to discover letters, drawings and photos that bear witness to daily life at the Colony from the spring of 1943 to the roundup of 6 April 1944. Duration : approximately 1 hour > ‘History of two children’ tour The tour follows the stories of two children from the Colony: one was deported, Georgy Halpern, and the other had already left the Colony at the time of the roundup, Samuel Pintel. Archival documents and video testimonials—shown on touchscreen tablets loaned to visitors—punctuate the tour and provide insight into daily life at the Colony, particularly through Samuel Pintel’s touching account and the letters that little Georgy wrote to his parents. Duration : approximately 1 hour >> Special tour for 8-12 year olds Only on Wednesdays during school holidays in Zone A and in July/August, at 2 p.m. With the help of archival documents and testimonials, and accompanied by a mediator, children explore the house to discover the history of the Colony and the solidarity that enabled the rescue of many children.
