6th April 2025: Commemoration, inauguration, general assembly Commémoration 81 years after the roundup of 6th April 1944 Sunday, 6 April marked the 81st anniversary of the Izieu roundup. Many people came to pay tribute to the 44 children and 7 teachers from the Colony, who were arrested and deported on 6 April 1944. This year, the youth council and children’s council of Les Avenières Veyrins-Thuellin (38) organized the ceremony. Four former German ASF volunteers, Leo Volkhardt (2017-2018), Jakob Wagner (2019-2020), Johanna Kießler (2023-2024) and Ben Schneiders (2024-2025), who each spent a year serving the memory at the Maison d’Izieu, were also present to share their experiences in Izieu. They read the names of the children from the Colony and the seven adults rounded up on 6 April 1944, together with young people from the Jewish Youth Association of Lyon Thierry Philip, president of the association, Mathias Ott, interministerial delegate for the fight against racism, anti-Semitism and anti-LGBT hatred (DILCRAH), and Yannick Scalzotto, sub-prefect of Belley, reiterated the importance of education and transmission so that we never forget. 01 / 12
