• French Shoah Memorial / Maison d’Izieu

Three thematic programmes are available for these two memorials.

  • Refugee children and hidden children.
For students aged 10 to 12.

At the Maison d’Izieu, the students visit the site and watch the film Avec les enfants? by Christian Delage, along with extracts from the Klaus Barbie trial relating to the Izieu raid. They then attend workshops based on children’s letters and the “voices of Izieu” recording.
During the workshop at the French Shoah Memorial, the students learn about the phases by which Jewish people were excluded from French society during the Occupation. They also cross paths with two girls who were refugees at Izieu.

  • From mutual assistance to armed combat
For students aged 14 to 15.

At the Maison d’Izieu, children visit the site, watch the films then learn how people helped the refugee children at the Izieu home.
At the French Shoah Memorial, they participate in the thematic visit concerning the different forms of resistance in France, then learn about the chain of actions that helped save 108 children at the Vénissieux camp.

  • Developing remembrance
For students aged 16 to 18

At the French Shoah Memorial, the students visit the site. Then, based on videos and analysis of images from memorials in France and Europe, they explore the links between memory and history.
At the Maison d’Izieu, they visit the site, watch the films then study the plaques and steles to understand how the memory of this place has changed over time.
