School groups and teachers

School visits of the Maison d’Izieu are intended for primary and secondary school pupils as well as university students. They can be the starting point for a wide variety of educational projects.
To ensure educational quality, the number of groups allowed on the site simultaneously is limited.

Several visit options are available, depending on the time teachers wish to spend and the themes they wish to explore in depth.

• Basic visit

Classes are led by a guide, who presents the site. The visit is overseen by the teachers. It may begin with either building, depending on the number of visitors at the site, and includes video projections.

Workshops

“Classes with workshop” include, in addition to the visit and video projections, a session with a member of the Education Department. The theme and specific details of the workshop are defined beforehand with the teacher depending on his/her project and the working areas of the Maison d’Izieu.
During these workshops, students:
– learn more about one of the exhibition themes,
– work with archival documents,
– work on art projects (literary texts, films, visual arts, etc.).

Presentations – testimonials

“Classes with speakers” introduce students to witnesses (former Izieu children, former hidden children, former deportees) or specific speakers (historians, legal experts, artists, etc.). As an extension to the visit, these classes are part of an educational project prepared in advance.
